If you have a special occasion coming up like a holiday, wedding or a big occasion you might want to postpone your period. By commencing the prescribed medication 3 days before your expected period, and continuing for up to 14 days you can delay your period for up to 17 days.
The medication is taken by mouth, three times a day, starting three days before the expected onset of your period. Your period usually follows within three days of finishing the treatment. The effectiveness of the delay varies between individuals.
You can take the period delay tablets for up to 14 days. Therefore, treatment for up to 17 days can be issued. The period delay medication is not a form of contraceptive, so you’ll need to use another form of contraception to prevent pregnancy. If you are taking a contraceptive pill then speak to us and we can advise you.
The period delay medication is supplied in packs of 30. The medication is Norethisterone 5mg tablets.
Norethisterone is a synthetic form of the natural hormone progesterone. It works by stopping you ovulating so that your womb lining does not shed. Periods are triggered every month by a drop in progesterone levels. By keeping your progesterone hormone level high, you can delay your period.
