Swettenham Chemists welcomed Alison McGovern - Wirral South MP to our Bromborough branch on Friday 29th June. Alison opened our new travel clinic and saw the refurbishment changes which have taken place since her previous visit. Alison spent the afternoon working in the pharmacy, experiencing what goes on behind the scenes in a community pharmacy, meeting our customers and talking to our team.
Any thoughts that a pharmacy only dispensed medicines and sold remedies were soon dispelled as Alison witnessed the customer queries and interactions. Recent NHS initiatives are encouraging pharmacies to talk about lifestyle, influence healthy life choices as well as screening patients for high blood pressure and excessive alcohol use.
Speaking of her experience Alison said: “I really enjoyed my time spent at Swettenham Chemists and I was really impressed with all the staff there. Their skills and knowledge of the industry was excellent and so was the help that they provide to customers. I want to thank them for making me so welcome and for teaching myself a little about the pharmaceutical industry and what is required by those working in it. I really find that doing this kind of shadowing helps me to gain an insight into the different types of jobs that people do and the skills that are needed to enable people to do their jobs successfully.”
